Preserving the History of Haileybury

About the Haileybury Heritage Musuem

Founded in 1983, the Haileybury (Fire) Heritage Museum began with a small display in the Council Chambers of the former Town of Haileybury by a group of dedicated volunteers. In 1985, the municipality passed a by-law to officially establish the Museum which was relocated to the space below the town office. By 1999, the collection had grown and the Museum moved once again to its present location at 575 Main Street, which was generously donated by Richard Fleming. The Haileybury Heritage Museum continues to grow with the support of its dedicated volunteers.

The Haileybury Heritage Museum offers a wide range of oral histories, photographs and artifacts relating to the Great Fire of 1922. It also records Haileybury’s history from 1889 when the founder C.C. Farr left his employment with the Hudson Bay Company at Fort Temiskaming to establish a settlement which he dubbed “Haileybury” in honour of the school he attended in England.

Our historical displays range from early settler experiences, local sporting achievements-including Art Ross’s 1910 season with the Haileybury Comets, Canada’s first official airmail flight and Haileybury’s Hardy Boys Connection.
